A Relaxed, Fancy Dress Wedding Full of Personality | Lauren & Ethan
Some weddings feel like a performance.
Lauren and Ethan’s felt like a room full of people who could just be themselves.
No pressure. No expectations. Just laughter, connection, and a day that reflected exactly who they are.

Lauren & Ethan’s Story
Lauren and Ethan’s story started in a way that feels very them – simple, natural, and unforced.
They met through a mutual friend while Ethan was working at a vape shop. A conversation turned into something more, and over time, that connection quietly grew into a strong, grounded relationship.
The proposal followed that same energy.
No big spectacle. No grand gestures.
Just an intimate moment at home on the 27th of September 2024, personal, meaningful, and completely true to them.

The Vision for the Day
From the very beginning, they were clear on one thing:
They didn’t want a wedding that felt staged.
They wanted something relaxed. Something warm. Something that allowed everyone to just enjoy being there.
And they built everything around that.
A fancy dress theme might sound bold on paper, but for them, it made perfect sense. It gave everyone permission to let go, to have fun, and to show up without overthinking.
That one decision shaped the entire atmosphere of the day.
It wasn’t about perfection.
It was about presence.

A Theme That Felt Like Them
They chose a fictional characters theme, and fully leaned into it.
Ethan arrived as Batman, with his best man as Robin. Lauren balanced it beautifully with a more traditional wedding look, grounding everything while still keeping the personality of the day intact.
Guests came dressed as their favourite characters, which instantly broke down any formality and replaced it with laughter.
Their colour palette carried the same personal meaning.
Blue for Lauren.
Pink for Ethan.
Simple choices, but ones that made the day feel unmistakably theirs.

What Mattered Most
When it came to planning, their priorities were clear:
- Keeping the day personal
- Making sure their children were part of it
- Honouring loved ones who couldn’t be there
Their children played a huge role as ring bearers, one of those moments that doesn’t need perfect execution to be meaningful.
In fact, it’s often the slightly imperfect moments that stay with you.
They also made space to remember Lauren’s father, adding a quiet emotional layer to the day that never felt heavy — just present, acknowledged, and deeply meaningful.

A Venue That Just Felt Right
Some couples visit ten venues before deciding.
Lauren and Ethan visited one.
And that was enough.
They fell in love with it instantly, the surroundings, the atmosphere, the feeling of the place. It also being close to Ethan’s family home made it even more personal.
Sometimes you don’t need to overthink it.
You just know.
The Planning Journey
The biggest challenge wasn’t logistics.
It was balance.
Bringing together a unique theme, meaningful details, and emotional tributes, all while keeping the day feeling relaxed, takes intention.
But they never lost sight of why they were doing it.
And that’s what kept everything grounded.
The most enjoyable part?
The personal touches.
From custom centrepieces made with log slices, flower balls, and mechanic tools (a nod to Ethan), to wedding newspapers and colouring books for guests, every detail had a story behind it.
Nothing felt random.
Everything felt considered.

The Ceremony
The moment they saw each other for the first time… everything else disappeared.
They both cried straight away.
Not in a dramatic way. Just in that quiet, overwhelming way where it all suddenly feels real.
Their children walking down as ring bearers added another layer to it, a moment that felt bigger than just the two of them.
And when they exchanged their promises, it grounded everything.
Simple. Emotional. Unforgettable.
The Celebration
The reception carried that same energy all the way through.
People reading their custom wedding newspapers.
Guests laughing in full costume.
The dance floor slowly filling up as the evening unfolded.
There wasn’t one standout moment.
It was a collection of them.
The kind you don’t always notice in real time, but feel when you look back.

A First Dance That Meant Something
They chose Home by Robert Grace, Bob Grace, and Lincoln Grace.
Not because it was popular.
Because it felt right.
The lyrics spoke to them. The feeling matched the moment. And it became the perfect way to begin this next chapter together.

The Moments You Don’t Plan
When you have a room full of people dressed as fictional characters, you don’t need to manufacture fun.
It just happens.
The entire day was full of unexpected, lighthearted moments, the kind that can’t be scheduled, only experienced.
A Few Standout Suppliers
There were a few people who really helped bring everything together.
Their DJ kept the energy high (and added a bit of magic into the mix too), while Sunny from AU Events created an experience guests genuinely enjoyed, especially around the 360 booth.
And hearing their words about the photography meant a lot:
They wanted something natural. Something relaxed. Something that didn’t feel staged.
And that’s exactly what we focused on.
Just letting the day unfold.
Capturing what was already there.
Their Favourite Image
Out of hundreds of photos, their favourite is a quiet evening portrait during the reception.
Nothing forced.
Just the two of them, in a calm, intimate moment, the kind that often gets missed in the pace of the day.
Those are usually the ones that matter most.

Final Reflections
If they had to describe their day in three words:
Relaxed.
Personal.
Unforgettable.
And that really says everything.
A Little Note From Me
Lauren and Ethan’s wedding is a perfect example of what happens when you stop trying to fit into what a wedding “should” be.
And instead, build something that actually feels like you.
No pressure. No performance. Just honest moments, shared with the people who matter most.
When I first met them at a wedding fair at Makeney Hall and they told me it was going to be fancy dress, I had a feeling it would be something special… it definitely didn’t disappoint.
Even Lee (my second photographer and a lifelong Star Trek fan) had his day made when Ethan’s dad arrived as Captain Picard.
Lee and I fully committed too, turning up as Ghostbusters for the day.
So if you’re planning something a little different, something relaxed, personal, and actually you…
And you’re worried you might feel a bit awkward in front of the camera…
Well… who you gonna call?
No pressure either way.
Just a conversation to see if it feels like a good fit.
