The Farmhouse at Mackworth Wedding – Heather and Jess

Jess and Heather’s Joyful and Intimate Wedding Celebration at The Folly at The Farmhouse
In this blog post, we take a glimpse into the beautiful wedding day of Jess and Heather, a couple who prioritized creating a joyful and intimate celebration surrounded by their loved ones. From their unique proposal stories to their carefully selected vendors, every detail of their day reflected their personalities and their journey together.

The Love Story and Proposal
We met at the school we worked at, we were a teacher and TA team! Jess proposed first at a Tim Gallagher concert to our song, ‘Lost without you’, which then became our first dance song too.
Heather proposed 16 days later in Spain on a balcony with the help of the 3 children. They held a big banner saying ‘Mum, will you marry Heather?’ on the street below.
We had 2 incredible proposals, both unique, both special and both unexpected for the other one of us!

What was your overall vision and theme for the wedding day?
Our wedding day was always going to be a simple day that was very ‘us’! We wanted to involve those who we love most dearly and create a happy, fun environment for everyone to enjoy. We made special effort to keep the ceremony small, just for those who are close family or those who have seen us through our journey together.
There was no specific theme particularly, just a very ‘Jess and Heather’ day! Everything from the sparklers to the pizzas and the dancing was everything we had both wanted!
What were your top three priorities when planning your wedding?
Our top 3 priorities were to have an amazing time making memories, spend time together with those we loved and to have fabulous photos to look back on. We succeeded in all 3 areas!
What made you choose The Folly at The Farmhouse?
We fell in love with the Farmhouse at Mackworth instantly when we saw it. It’s friendly nature, rustic features, awesome DJ and amazing wedding planner (Paige) made planning and organising the day so easy, fun and enjoyable.
What was the most challenging part of wedding planning?
Making decisions because we are so indecisive! It helped that we got engaged in May and married in February so we didn’t have a lot of time to be too indecisive!
The easiest and most enjoyable aspect was ordering all the little details to make the wedding day and venue special. Social media was a helpful resource for inspiration from other weddings.
What was the easiest or most enjoyable aspect of planning?
The little details to make it ‘us’! The mirror we made together and the planning of different bits with our friends and family!
Did you use any online tools or resources that you found particularly helpful?
We used a website to find David for photographs – we sent out our details in and he rang us straight away….that’s when we got to talk to him and find out how fabulous he is!
What advice would you give to couples currently planning their wedding?
Enjoy every moment and don’t stress! Make a list and tick off little bits each day/week – but do it together to make sure you don’t lose touch of what you both want and why you’re doing it.
How long did it take to find your wedding dresses and how did you know when you’d found the one?
We both picked out dresses with our mums. Jess tried one on and loved it! Heather tried a few more than that on but still went back to dress number 1 for hers too! It just felt right!!!

The Wedding Day!
Describe the moment you first saw each other on your wedding day.
There are no words for that moment – it was the most breath-taking, fabulous moment to see each other before we walked down the aisle together, hand in hand.

What was your favourite part of the ceremony?
Being surrounded by those who love us, celebrating being us and having the kids be a huge part of it too!

What song did you have for your first dance and why that one?
Tim Gallagher’s Lost Without You – it was the first song Jess sent Heather and we both loved it! Jess then proposed to this song so there was no other choice for the first dance!
What was your favourite part of the reception?
Dancing the night away to the best 90s tunes with all of our people!
Was there a funny or unexpected moment that happened during the day?
The music started playing in the wrong part of the ceremony and Jess forgot Heather’s name when saying the vows because of this – it was hilarious!

David’s favourite funny moment of the day was when Heather was getting into her dress – she walked out of the bathroom forgetting David was there and said, ‘2 pairs of control pants and no bra – what a day!’ David couldn’t stop laughing!
The Wedding Photos
How did you find me and what made you want to book me?
An online platform – if honest, we can’t remember the name of the website but as soon as we found David, he rang us and we chatted through everything and arranged a date to meet.
Your wedding gallery contained just under 600 photos. Which one was your favourite and why?
Too many favourites to choose from! There are so many lovely ones – we love all our photos of us, of us and the kids, with friends and family and particularly the photos of us all dancing (even David sang and danced a little bit)! – Note from David: I would just like to apologise to anyone who was in earshot; in my head, I sound amazing. Apparently, this isn’t the case if you are unfortunate to be close by!

Were there any wedding suppliers that truly exceeded your expectations?

Yes, our mirror at the entrance way that we made.
Did you have any unique or personalised elements at your wedding?
All of our elements were unique and personal to us because that’s just how we wanted it!

Final Thoughts
If you could describe your wedding day in three words, what would they be?
BEST DAY EVER!
Is there anything else you’d like to share about your wedding experience?
Another huge thank you to David for being approachable, friendly and so discrete that people didn’t realise he was taking their photos! Before, during and after our wedding – we’ve found an amazing photographer and a great human to chat to, catch up with and recommend to others! Note from David: Thanks so much you two were just the best to work with. x
